Our website has much of interest for all members of the Christ's College community dispersed throughout New Zealand, and throughout the world. I extend a particularly warm welcome to those who may be considering applying to join the school, and hope a brief introduction will be of help to you.
Christ's College is an independent boarding and day school for boys. It is an historic part of Canterbury's original settlement, where the most up to date education takes place against a backdrop of glorious heritage and tradition. Our highly qualified, talented and committed academic staff are supported by forward thinking governance and a dedicated team of professional administrators, to ensure every possible opportunity is provided for our boys and young men.
Our House system is a great strength. Each boy is a member of a House (four for boarders, six for day boys) and this provides not only facilities for study and relaxation, and the focus of our pastoral care, but also that sense of membership and commitment that is so important to us.
Central to the character of the school is boarding. With all our boarding houses recently refurbished and a brand new house completed in 2005, our facilities are first class. When classes are over and prep is done, boarders can choose from a wide range of extra-curricular activities as part of our unique Boarding Programme.
Our Chapel is central to our commitment to spiritual growth, and the development of the proper balance between concern for self and for others.
Our setting is known throughout New Zealand for its unique mix of convenience and beauty. We are in the centre of Christchurch, with its art galleries, theatres, museums, concert halls and sports venues, whilst surrounded by The Botanic Gardens and the wide open spaces of Hagley Park.
We expect all our boys to work hard and to play hard, to leave academically qualified to the very limit of their potential, and to be fulfilled in all their other endeavours. Above all, to be honest, generous and dependable young men, confident in themselves and reliable companions to others. There was never a parent who wished for any less.
