CHAPEL

At the heart of Christ’s College is the Chapel. Regular services provide the context of our life as a community. The Christian faith on which the College was founded remains the guiding principle for our spiritual life and our values.

Although Christ's College is Anglican in foundation and services in Chapel follow the practice of the Anglican Church, the school accepts boys of all denominations, religions, and cultures. Following Anglican teaching in this country, all those who are baptised (christened), whatever their age or denomination, are welcomed and encouraged to receive Holy Communion.

Those who are part of the Christ’s College community are expected to embrace our shared values and participate in Chapel life. This includes Chapel services on two weekday mornings, and on Sundays four times a term. There is usually a morning or evening service each Sunday during the term. The Sunday morning service is a Eucharist (Holy Communion). Sunday evening services take a variety of forms. Parents, family members and visitors are encouraged to attend and participate in these Sunday services.

The Chapel, founded in 1867, has a rich musical tradition with an excellent choir and renowned congregational singing. Worship is enriched by our three manual organ.

The spiritual dimension to life at Christ’s College is the responsibility of our full-time Chaplain, Bosco Peters. He oversees Chapel, Religious Education, and shares in the pastoral care of the boys. All boys attend Religious Education classes during their first three years. At Years 12 and 13, there is an opportunity to explore personal faith in a course that concludes, for those who wish, with a special Confirmation service. Baptism is an option that may be taken by boys of any age.

Worship in Chapel not only is important in nurturing the sense of community at Christ’s College, it offers a foundation for a positive perspective on life in today’s world and hope for the future. Here we seek to form young men who will contribute positively, and be of service to others.
