Scholarships

ACADEMIC AND MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR ENTRY AT YEAR 9 (all are tenable for five years):

  • Two Somes Scholarships each to the value of 80% of tuition fees
  • Eight Somes Exhibitions for 50% of tuition fees
  • One Grigg Exhibition to the value of 20% of tuition fees
  • One Somes Exhibition in English to the value of 20% of tuition fees
  • One Somes Exhibition in Mathematics to the value of 20% of tuition fees
  • Two Somes Boarding Scholarships for full boarding fees
  • One Stringer (North Island) Scholarship (when available) for full boarding fees
  • Two Somes Music Scholarships for half tuition fees and tuition in one musical instrument
  • Two Somes Exhibitions in Music for 20% of tuition fees and tuition in one instrument
  • Two Sports Scholarships for 80% of tuition fees, for outstanding ability in any sport (are usually awarded in Year 11, but may in exceptional circumstances be awarded in Year 9)

All candidates must be under 13 years of age on 1 April and in Year 8 in the year prior to application.

Pre-enrolment must be completed by 4pm on the last Friday in May each year.

ART SCHOLARSHIP

One Scholarship will be available each year to a boy entering the school at Year 12 or 13 level. The value of the Scholarship is 50% of tuition fees. However, the successful candidate's family financial position will be a consideration in determining the Scholarship's value. Candidates must submit their Term II academic report from their current school, and this should indicate the applicant is performing at 'Excellence' level in his current Art course, as well as performing soundly in his other academic subjects. Applicants will need to submit a collection of either drawings, paintings, prints or photographs.

HEADMASTER’S SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships are available for boys of outstanding ability in academic or other areas, to enter the school at Year 9, 10 or 11. Applications close at the end of May in the year prior to entry. Financial need is a criterion considered in the allocation of a Headmaster’s Scholarship.
